23. Our Golden Boy.

If you don't know who Alexandre Bilodeau is then you've been living under a rock for the past week. He is the first Canadian to win a gold medal in the Olympics on Canadian soil. Pretty impressive non? He took time out of his incredibly busy schedule to pop by my office today, not just a random office, his father is a partner in our Montreal office- he's apart of the family. They had set up a little photo shoot in our training room for staff to come down, congratulate Alex and get our picture taken with him. People started lining up over 30 minutes before he was supposed to arrive and with about 10 minutes to go I decided I wanted to pick up the latest copy of Maclean's magazine, which he and his brother Frederic are on the cover.
I dashed down to Shoppers, by passed the huge line up- thank you beauty counter- and raced back up to my office. Just as I walked into our reception area Alex was there taking pictures with our big boss and his family. I grabbed my sharpie and waited, figuring it would be easiest to just stand there and get him to sign it. I thanked him and headed back to where everyone was waiting. People were thrilled he had arrived and that I got the magazine signed. Once Alex was set up for our photo shoot, our big boss informed the line (which now held almost 100 people) that due to time restrictions we wouldn't be able to get any autographs! Thank god I got mine done upstairs. I had about 30 seconds with him while getting our picture taken, we shook hands and I introduced myself, after the snapshots were taken I thanked him and congratulated him on his major, major accomplishment and that was that.
Alex Bilodeau is so genuine, being that he's 22 and has been thrust into the limelight, he's incredibly down to earth. The love he has for his brother could warm the coldest of hearts. He'll always remain Canada's Golden Boy.
