Alexisonfire was scheduled to do a free show at LiveCity Yaletown last night as a part of the Olympic celebrations that are going on (around the clock) here in the city. Unfortunately more people showed up than expected and people had to be turned away at the entrance. The crowd was large, rowdy and most likely drunk out of their minds (though I'm not saying everyone was). The thing about Alexisonfire shows is that if you've never been to one before- don't push to the front because you'll end up leaving with a bloody nose or worse- broken bones. I know this, I've been to my fair share of shows over the past few years and at my first Alexis show I made the mistake of trying to get as close to the stage as possible. I was pushed and pulled and almost lost my purse. Yeh, I had a purse at a rock show- I was 18 and it was my first concert. I since have learned. I digress. The crowd was so excited when the boys took the stage that everyone rushed and pushed to the front. Long story short. Barricade broke, people kept pushing, people were trampled and hurt. One girl even broke her leg. How rock and roll. The band, noticing what had happened, stopped the show not a minute into their first song and began helping people up and out. The security, the stage guys and the band were, in a way, heroes. Most bands would have seen what happened, stopped the show and walked off not caring if people were hurt or not. Wade, Jordan, Dallas, George and Chris do not make up that kind of band. After the chaos had cleared Wade and George took to the mic and began apologizing to the crowd and informed them that it was unsafe to continue the show. Of course they were met with a wave of boos and fuck yous. Do people really think that they wanted to cancel the show? That they wanted to piss off thousands of fans? Of course not and to the people who are bitching that the band could have played on and that it wasn't a big deal. Fuck. You. How dare you take this out on the band. I know to most this isn't a big deal but these guys are pure class, they are planning on rescheduling another free show to make up for last nights fiasco. Did you know that they are touring soon? That all they've done is tour and tour over the past several years. These guys are going to play a free show using one of their days off. How many bands can you say would do that? Alexisonfire appreciates their fans and clearly the people who whined and cried and raised their middle fingers towards the stage last night don't appreciate Alexisonfire. I'm fucking pissed off.

This was the topic of convo in the kitchen at work today; I wasn't there but sounded nuts. I think the general take is that the band handled it really well. I wasn't there to witness, but all in all a total bummer for everyone involved. The FUs are inevitable; people can only see three inches in front of their own eyes sometimes:)
lol! Who nabs purse's at a concert? How do you go, "Man, this music rocks but lets do something that will make me have to flee the scene!"
