Movie Review: X-Men Origins Wolverine

I have a secret. I like comic books... but not the actual comic books. If that makes sense. I love X-Men. Have done since I was a little kid, I used to watch the cartoon every Saturday morning. I desperately wanted to be Rogue, but I thought Storm was the prettiest. Gambit, Remy LeBeau, was my favourite guy on the show. Professor X was the coolest teacher, ever. I grew up and stopped following the series that was until the first X-Men moving came out in 2000, then the second one in 2003 and The Last Stand in 2006. I recently bought all three of the movies from HMV for 15 bucks- for them all. It was a great deal and so far I've watched them over and over in preparation for the newest installment, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I can't say I'm a huge Hugh Jackman fan, I can't get over the fact that the same guy who plays muscly James Logan also sings and dances on Broadway. Am I the only one who finds that really weird?
Over the weekend I went to see the movie with my Mom and brother, I was pretty impressed with the storyline and how things fit together. If you aren't familiar with the movie, it's a prequel which means it all happens before the X-Men movies. It ties a lot of things together and gives us a great look at how James Logan became Wolverine. I was really excited about getting to see more of Gambit, played by a recent Magnet of Brenny's, sadly he wasn't in much of the movie. I really liked the relationship between Logan and Kayla, who is played by Lynn Collins (check back tomorrow for more info on her) but I won't give anything away.
Deadpool a.k.a Ryan Reynolds scared the crap out of me, I actually had to almost hide behind my Mom. He looked freaky! But I won't say why. Though, apparently they have green lighted the next X-Men Origins movie and it will be about Ryan's character. I can't say I'm thrilled about that, sure he's fun to look at, but he should stick to romantic comedies a la Definitely, Maybe. I'd really like to see an X-Men Origins about Professor Charles Xavier and his frenemy Erik Lehnsherr. An X-Men Origins: Professor X and Magneto would be really cool. Or well at least I think it would, a lot more interesting than Deadpool.
I've probably lost a lot of people by now so I'm just going to leave it at that. The story of the movie was good, the special effects however should have been better, I almost had to hold in laughter in certain parts. All in all though, I'd go see it again before it comes out on DVD. But first, I must go see Star Trek.
Yep, I'm a nerds dream girl.
Edit: after checking around a few places they are saying that Magneto is going to get his own Origins movie for 2011, but I don't really believe it- it's from IMDb. But someone made a good point, which I didn't even think of. Deadpool isn't an X-Men- he's not really even a mutant. But then again, Magneto isn't an X-Men either- but he is a mutant. So... who knows what's actually going on. But regardless I'm excited for whoever they do the next movie on. There is so much history with the series these movies could be made until I'm in my 50's.

ROOOGUE!!! hahahah I loved Rogue and then when they casted Anna Paquin I nearly died, she so ugly and Rogue was supposed to be this husky voiced hotness in spandex and they casted ANNA PAQUIN with her gappy teeth and her fat nose. I always wanted WOlverine to get over Jean Grey and fall in love with Rogue.

OMG wasnt Kayla super pretty:)

I'm excited for the Deadpool movie! Technically, his regenerative healing makes him a mutant. But he isn't an X-Men so it must not be an X-Men Origins movie?

I'm a total Wolverine fangirl, he's my #1 guy to draw and paint. Though I haven't been to see the movie yet...maybe this weekend! I hate crowds.

Good review without spoilers!!

EEE!! This is so exciting that you guys know X-Men too!

Bren, be nice! I like Anna Paquin! I like her in True Blood- maybe not so much as Rogue though.

It would be too weird in the movies if Wolverine and Logan hooked up- in the movies they made it like a family bond- not a sexy bond. But she's supposed to be much older right?

I hate crowds too that's why I didn't go opening weekend Pamela =)
